About Our Farm

Our path to farming began with the desire to connect with our community and to push the limits of small-farm sustainability. It is our vision to be involved with every stage of the animals we raise and eat. From inception and birth through adolescence and slaughter our farm is a complete system committed to producing the finest quality heritage meats in the most responsible and sustainable manner possible. Here are the four cornerstones of our farming philosophy:

Organic farming practices -- Our farm is USDA Certified Organic. We employ rotational grazing, never spray our pastures, and never use hormones or antibiotics. We would do this regardless of label designations. Providing ample pasture and treating livestock with the respect they deserve are a given in any truly sustainable farming system. We have sought USDA organic certification because we are proud of the fact that we feed our hogs and poultry only certified organic grains. This means no GMO feed. Ever. The use of Non-gentically modified feeds are the best way to ensure that healthy, pure food is coming off our farm and into our bodies.

Heritage livestock -- I've dedicated a whole section of the web site to this subject. Our vision could never be realized if not for our heritage hogs, sheep, poultry and beef.

Education -- We became farmers to bridge the rapidly increasing gap between grower and consumer. By encouraging farm visits, educating folks on what sustainability actually looks like, and growing the most flavorful meat and produce, we strive to encourage excitement for great food within our own community. From birth through slaughter we aim to be a resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the origins of the food they eat.

Responsible husbandry from birth to slaughter -- Livestock is designed to be consumed. It is meant to nourish and satiate us. It is a gift that should never be taken for granted. We understand this on the most fundamental level and have built our farm around the concept of the most humane treatment of all of our animals. We understand that a well treated animal grows faster, stays healthier and tastes better. It is because of this that we breed all of our animals on farm and raise them on our own pastures.

Farming is as much instinctual as it is technical. We approach every day with a willingness to learn something new. We know that every input applied and every decision made ultimately affects the flavor and quality of our product. We strive to convey all the aspects of our farming philosophy through the food that comes off this farm. The French have a word for this: Terrior. Taste our food and enjoy the best our land can offer.
